Frequently asked questions

Teanuma is the largest online therapy platform, offering care that’s completely digital. We’re changing how people approach mental health by making professional therapy more accessible and affordable. With Teanuma, you can connect with a licensed therapist anytime and anywhere through secure online messaging or live sessions.

After signing up, you’ll be matched with a therapist who aligns with your goals, preferences, and the issues you want to address. If you feel your therapist isn’t the right fit, you can easily request to be matched with someone else.

All therapists on Teanuma are qualified, experienced professionals — including licensed counselors, psychologists, social workers, and therapists. Each holds an accredited degree, has a minimum of three years of experience, and maintains credentials with their professional licensing board. This ensures they meet the highest standards of education, training, and practice.

Every therapist must submit valid credentials and go through a comprehensive verification process, which includes document reviews, case evaluations, and background checks.

Teanuma may be a great fit if you’re looking to improve your mental well-being or overcome challenges affecting your happiness and goals. Our network includes specialists in areas such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, parenting, trauma, grief, addictions, anger, family conflict, self-esteem, and more.

However, Teanuma is not suitable if:

  • You are a minor or under legal guardianship

  • You are experiencing an emergency or crisis situation

  • You are required to undergo therapy by a court or authority

  • You do not have a reliable internet connection or device

Therapy through Teanuma costs $70–$100 per week (billed every four weeks). Rates vary by location, preferences, and therapist availability. You can cancel your subscription anytime.

Our licensed therapists provide professional care equivalent in quality to in-office sessions. However, Teanuma cannot fully replace traditional face-to-face therapy in every case. Therapists on our platform cannot provide formal diagnoses, prescribe medication, or fulfill court orders.

Accordion ContentMatching usually takes a few hours to a few days, depending on therapist availability.

You can connect with your therapist in four ways:

  • Secure messaging

  • Live chat

  • Phone calls

  • Video sessions

You can switch between these methods anytime, depending on what’s most convenient for you.

Send messages to your therapist anytime — no scheduling needed. Your therapist will reply with insights and guidance as soon as they can.

At your scheduled time, simply log in and start chatting with your therapist in real-time.

You can schedule an audio session and connect with your therapist through your phone or computer. Once you log in at the scheduled time, you’ll be prompted to start the session. The system will call you directly, and your phone number will remain private.

Schedule a video session and log in at your set time — similar to using Zoom or FaceTime — to meet your therapist face-to-face online.

Yes. You can log in anytime to read previous messages from your therapist for reflection or progress tracking.

That depends on you. Some clients feel improvement within a few weeks, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. You can continue therapy for as long as it’s helpful.

We’re committed to accessibility and follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA level. Desktop users can access our Accessibility Preferences page, and mobile users can use their device’s built-in accessibility tools.

You can pay using credit/debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Teanuma also accepts HSA/FSA cards, recognized by most providers as eligible expenses. Membership renews automatically, but you can cancel anytime.

Teanuma provides the platform that connects clients and independent licensed therapists. The therapists are not employees of Teanuma. Our role is to maintain a secure and effective space for communication, ensuring a positive and productive therapy experience.

For example, research published by JMIR Publications (with UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, and San Francisco General Hospital) found that BetterHelp users significantly reduced depression symptoms after using the platform.
